Sony Introduces a Slimmer PS5
Improved Size and Storage Capacity
After three years since the introduction of the PlayStation 5, Sony fans have reason to rejoice as Sony presents its latest innovation: a new and enhanced PS5 model. The latest iteration has a slimmer form factor than its predecessor, providing more fantastic choice and flexibility while still maintaining the cutting-edge technology that has made the PS5 the favorite gaming console for millions of gamers worldwide.
Improved PS5 Features
A Compact Marvel and Enhanced Capacity
- Comparison between latest PS5 and previous PS5 consoles.
The new PS5 model follows the same design language as the older one, with its thinner size as one of its most notable characteristics. The conventional version measures roughly 14 x 3.7 x 8.5 inches (358 x 96 x 216 mm), while the digital edition measures 14 x 3.15 x 8.5 inches (358 x 80 x 216 mm). This reduction in width means the volume decreased by over 30%, making it much more space-efficient for any gaming setup.
In response to the increased demand for storage space, the new PS5 also includes a 1TB SSD, a significant boost over the previous model's 825 GB. It maintains a read bandwidth of 5.5GB/s (Raw), allowing for more games and content to be stored inside while ensuring lightning-fast loading speeds.
Cover Panels for Functionality and Aesthetics
The new PS5 is a wonder not only in terms of capability but also in terms of design. It has four distinct cover panels, the top of which has a glossy surface that stands out against the matte finish of the bottom panel. The overall aesthetic appeal of the console has been improved by this level of focus on detail.
One of the new PS5 models offers a detachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive for those who prefer physical copies of their favorite games but buy the Digital version first. This optional accessory allows adding physical media support at any time, available separately for 79.99 USD | 119.99 EURO | 99.99 GBP | 11,980 JPY.
Availability and Pricing
Launches on November in the US
The new PS5 model is set to launch in November in the U.S. at select local retailers and PlayStation Store with a global rollout in the ensuing months. Manufacturing of the older PS5 will stop, so once the current PS5 model's inventory is depleted, the newer model will become the sole option available.
The recommended retail prices for the new PS5 model are as follows:
Location | PS5 with Ultra Blu-ray Disc Drive | Digital Edition | Blu-ray Disc Drive |
---|---|---|---|
U.S | $499.99 | $449.99 | $79.99 |
Europe | €549.99 | €449.99 | €119.99 |
United Kingdom | £479.99 | £389.99 | £99.99 |
Japan | ¥66,980 (includes tax) | ¥59,980 (includes tax) | ¥11,980 (includes tax) |
As one might notice, it would be cheaper to buy the model with the physical drive built into the console, rather than buy the digital version and attach the Blu-Ray Disc Drive later. A horizontal stand will be included with the new PS5 model, while a new Vertical Stand compatible with all PS5 models will be sold separately at 29.99 USD | 29.99 EURO | 24.99 GBP | 3,980 JPY.
