DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake is a reimagining of the first two adventures in the Erdrick Trilogy, presented in the same HD-2D style as the Dragon Quest III remake. The two games are bundled together in one package, set to launch on October 30, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

DragonQuest I & II HD-2D Remake Gameplay

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will stay true to the classic gameplay of the original titles. Players will take on the roles of Erdrick' descendants, leading their parties on a grand adventure across towns, caves, and various landscapes—helping people, uncovering secrets, and facing a looming evil that threatens the world. The remake features traditional turn-based combat alongside modern quality-of-life improvements to enhance the overall experience.

The turn-based combat lets players take turns choosing from a variety of actions each round. Every character has unique roles and skills, but all party members can use options like “Fight,” “Run,” “Spell,” and “Item.” You’ll control each party member individually, and encounters with enemies occur randomly while exploring the overworld.

Some enemies can even be recruited to join your party. Victory is achieved by reducing the enemy’s HP to zero, earning experience points to level up. The game features a large overworld map with a top-down perspective, allowing players to explore towns, dungeons, and other areas across a vast open world.

Improving upon the original games, DragonQuest I & II HD-2D Remake introduces new changes across the board, including fighting multiple enemies in DQ1, increased party size in DQ2, a new underwater region for DQ2, multiple difficulty modes, options to increase game speed, and so much more.
