Lies of P Features

Multiple Endings Achieved Through Lying

Image

It would not be Pinocchio if there was no element of lying in the game. As stated on the Lies of P official site and Steam page, Pinocchio will need to lie if he wants to become human, and these choices will affect the outcome of the story. This strongly implies that we will be able to lie to other characters and that our choices may lead to multiple endings.

We can speculate that there are at least two endings: one where Pinocchio becomes human, and one where he doesn't. Perhaps there will be variations on these as well, such as good and bad endings for becoming human or not becoming human, respectively. Either way, we hope the choices in Lies of P are meaningful and lead to distinct endings that each feel unique and earned.

Acquire Skills By Modifying Ponocchio

As a doll, Pinocchio can modify various body parts to acquire new skills. The mechanism that makes up Pinocchio's left arm can be fashioned into claws, a hand cannon, or a grappling hook as shown in the trailer. Find the most advantageous combinations by doing research.

Weapon Combination System

Image
In an interview with IGN at Gamescom 2022, Lies of P director Choi Ji-Won stated that weapons will have two separate components comprised of an arm and a blade. Each arm and blade that you find will have different properties, and can be upgraded separately. This allows the player to combine any arm with any blade to create the ideal weapon for their playstyle.

Bloodborne Inspired Souls-like Combat

Lies of P features all the staples of Souls-like combat, with what look to be HP, Stamina, and Magic meters at the upper left of the UI. In combat you can use your melee weapon, skills that presumably cost MP to cast, block, dodge, and parry. Judging from the trailer footage, the gameplay looks smooth and responsive. As this game is a Souls-like we can expect the difficulty balancing to be punishing, but fair.

Aesthetically, Lies of P feels very similar to Bloodborne with a mix of Bioshock, however the combat adopts ideas from various From Software titles, in addition to Lies of P bringing its own ideas to the table. Pinocchio's arm bears a striking similarity to Sekiro's prosthetics tools, especially when you consider it can be used as a grappling hook.

Is Lies of P Worth Buying?

Buy If You Are Into Souls-like Action RPGs

While this opinion is just based on the trailers and avaialble info about the game so far, Lies of P does a great job of reimagining Pinocchio in a dark, twisted way. Lies of P clearly takes inspiration from games like Bloodborne and Bioshock, and if the thought of that combination doesn't excite you, then maybe this game isn't for you.

If you read that last sentence and felt any level of excitement, you should buy this game to see how this game adopts and builds off of its predecessors. Even if you haven't played either Bloodborne or Bioshock, if you find the setting, premise, and darker atmosphere Lies of P to be interesting, by all means check it out.

However, if you find Souls-likes aren't your thing, or if you just have burnout from playing other Souls-like titles, then maybe give this title some time and reconsider playing it once more info is available. Informed decisions are always encouraged.
