Rainbow Six Siege is a tactical FPS where players attack and defend a secure position using high-tech gadgets and specialized Operators. Read on to learn everything we know about the game, including gameplay and story information.
Rainbow Six Siege Gameplay
Rainbow Six Siege is a tactical first-person shooter where players take turns as Attackers and Defenders, competing to secure or defend an objective. Players assume the role of Operators, elite soldiers from various global military forces, each equipped with unique high-tech gadgets and weapons.
Each match consists of multiple rounds, beginning with an operator selection phase where players choose their character and spawn locations. This is followed by the drone phase, where Attackers deploy unmanned drones to scout the map while Defenders reinforce walls, set up barricades, and deploy traps to secure their position. Once the preparation phase ends, the siege begins, with Attackers breaching entry points and engaging the enemy team.
Victory conditions vary depending on the game mode. Attackers may need to retrieve and extract a hostage or plant a device while preventing Defenders from disabling it. Alternatively, a team can win by eliminating all opponents before the round ends.
Each Operator has a unique gadget, ranging from shields, traps, and sensors to explosives, mounted weapons, and surveillance tools. Additionally, players can customize their loadouts with grenades, reinforcements, armor packs, and weapon attachments to tailor their strategy and playstyle.
Every map in Rainbow Six Siege features partial destructibility, allowing players to reshape the battlefield dynamically. Certain Operator gadgets, like Sledge's hammer, are specifically designed to break through walls, floors, and ceilings, altering sightlines and creating new engagement opportunities.
Destructible walls and floors provide both strategic advantages and risks—players can create surprise attack routes but also expose themselves to enemy fire. Meanwhile, reinforced surfaces require specialized breaching tools, forcing Attackers to engage on the Defenders’ terms by funneling through limited entry points. This interplay between destruction and fortification is a core pillar of Siege’s tactical gameplay.
Rainbow Six Siege Story Plot
Rainbow Six Siege doesn't have a traditional single-player story but features a loose narrative told through operator bios, event cinematics, and in-game updates.
The game follows Team Rainbow, an elite counter-terrorism unit reactivated to combat a growing global threat known as the White Mask organization. After training operators from various special forces, Team Rainbow neutralizes the White Masks, but the group's leader, Dr. Harishva Harry
Pandey, shifts the unit's focus toward preparing for future threats through simulated combat scenarios.
As tensions rise between operators, internal conflicts lead to the formation of Nighthaven, a private military group that splits from Rainbow. The ongoing narrative explores ideological clashes, geopolitical tensions, and the evolving role of special forces in modern warfare.
