Freedom Wars Remastered Gameplay

Image

In Freedom Wars Remastered, players tackle missions to combat giant enemies known as Abductors, often tasked with rescuing civilians held captive by them. The game is a third-person action game, which incorporates squad-based mechanics. Each player is accompanied by an "Accessory," an android partner that can provide tactical support like collect resources and revive allies. These Accessories are also integral to gameplay, as they can be abducted by enemies, prompting rescue missions.

Central to the gameplay is the use of "Thorns," lassos that allow players to zip across battlefields and immobilize enemies. Different thorn types offer specialized abilities, such as deploying traps, creating shields, and more.

The game also makes use of a Panopticon system that ties gameplay progression to a global leaderboard. Players represent one of several Panopticons—territories that compete for dominance by securing resources in battles. Contributing resources to your Panopticon reduces our in-game sentence and boosts your faction’s standing, while keeping resources for personal upgrades may incur penalties.

Weapons in the game range from swords, firearms, and heavy artillery, each with unique attributes and customization options. Players and Accessories can only carry two weapons at once. Moreover, crafting and upgrading gear rely on real-time resource management and randomized outcomes.

The game also has a progression system where players start with heavily restricted privileges and must "earn" rights through contributions. This includes the ability to walk freely or access advanced weapons.

Freedom Wars Remastered features several key enhancements over the original release. Visually, the game targets 4K resolution at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and 1080p at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 4. Combat has also been refined through adjustments such as increased movement speed and the implementation of action canceling by using Thorns. Moreover, control schemes have been modernized and offer greater customization.

Significant changes have been made to the crafting and upgrade systems, including a more intuitive interface for managing modules. The new interface makes it easier to attach and detach modules. Module synthesis is a new feature that allows players to upgrade modules using resources provided by the citizens they have saved.

The game now features a new Deadly Sinner difficulty mode, enhanced online multiplayer with co-op and versus options, and an improved lobby search function. Furthermore, all customization DLC from the original Freedom Wars release on the PlayStation Vita will be available immediately upon starting the game.

Freedom Wars Remastered Story

Image

In the far off future, year 102014, humanity is confined to walled city-states known as Panopticons due to a resource-depleted Earth. The protagonist begins the story condemned to a staggering one-million-year prison sentence for the crime of being alive without contributing to society. To reduce this sentence, individuals are forced into life-threatening missions, primarily battling massive mechanical beings called Abductors, which as the name implies, abduct and enslave citizens.

Panopticons are institutions of unrelenting surveillance, where criminals are stripped of their rights and subjected to constant monitoring. While Accessories serve as allies during combat, they are also agents of the Panopticon who ensure that criminals remain tightly controlled. As the protagonist rescues captured citizens and fulfills various obligations, they begin to unravel the systemic conspiracies that uphold the Panopticons' oppressive regime.
