FAIRY TAIL: Beach Volleyball Havoc Overall Score - 72/100

FAIRY TAIL: Beach Volleyball Havoc plays out like the ultimate filler beach episode—wild, over-the-top, and brimming with fan service that’ll have die-hard fans grinning. The game delivers chaotic fun, especially when played with friends, but it falls short in variety, lacking different modes and maps, which can make it repetitive too quickly. The visuals, while vibrant, can get a bit too hectic, making it tough to follow the action at times. Still, for fans of the series, it's a sun-soaked celebration of everything they love about Fairy Tail.

FAIRY TAIL: Beach Volleyball Havoc Story - 5/10

Unfortunately, this game lacks a story, and it really could have used one. The game essentially has only one mode and it quickly becomes repetitive, especially after you’ve unlocked all the characters.

FAIRY TAIL: Beach Volleyball Havoc Gameplay - 8/10

As the name suggests, this game is a wild blend of volleyball and Fairy Tail's chaotic magic, and it's an absolute blast—especially multiplayer and as you unlock more characters, each with their own unique power-ups and abilities that turn the screen into a whirlwind of fun. However, the game’s biggest drawback is its lack of variety, with only one game mode, making it feel repetitive over time. It can also be too easy at points, with the ball being so simple to receive and pass that it sometimes feels like you're just going through the motions. More modes and a bit more challenge would have made it truly stand out.

FAIRY TAIL: Beach Volleyball Havoc Visuals - 8/10

The visuals in this game take a bold departure from the traditional Fairy Tail manga and anime style, but they stand out with a unique, vibrant flair. The characters are full of life, bursting with personality in their sprites, and there’s plenty of fan service that will have die-hard Fairy Tail fans doing double takes. Unfortunately, the game’s vivid colors and intense brightness can sometimes be more of a distraction than a delight.

The saturation sometimes makes it hard to follow the action, with the screen becoming a blur of pixel art and flashing effects. There were moments when I couldn't tell what was happening because of how overwhelming the visuals became, often making it difficult to track the ball or understand the chaos on screen. Though the art is fun, it would have benefited from toned-down visuals or an option to adjust the brightness and saturation for a smoother experience.

FAIRY TAIL: Beach Volleyball Havoc Audio - 8/10

I really enjoy the laid-back, summer vibe of the soundtrack—it perfectly complements the beach setting and adds a relaxing, fun energy to the game. It’s the kind of music that’s easy to vibe with and makes the whole experience more enjoyable.

FAIRY TAIL: Beach Volleyball Havoc Value for Money - 7/10

Although the game doesn’t have a set price yet on Steam, it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re a Fairy Tail fan, especially if you have friends or family who are into the series. It’s a blast to play together, but the lack of game modes can make it feel repetitive over time. Additionally, it’s not the best fit for newcomers, as it assumes you already know the characters and their abilities. While it’s still fun, it’s definitely geared more toward die-hard Fairy Tail fans.

FAIRY TAIL: Beach Volleyball Havoc Review: Fan-Service Gallore!

Image

A Fairy Tail volleyball game was the last thing I expected from the series, but it's a welcome surprise that actually makes sense. With all the beach and swimming episodes in Fairy Tail, it feels fitting to throw the characters into a chaotic volleyball match. The game’s title couldn’t be more accurate.

There’s only one mode, “Wrecking Match,” where you can play against the CPU or with friends in a four-player setup. At the start, you can choose from Lucy, Erza, Natsu, and Gray, but there are plenty of other Fairy Tail characters to unlock as you progress, all with powers as flashy as Team Natsu’s.

The controls are simple, as it’s a 2D volleyball game with basic actions like serve, pass, receive, and jump—plus spiking. Passing is crucial since successful passes release Lacrima, which builds your magic gauge. Once your gauge is full, you can unleash magical attacks, turning the match into chaotic fun. Natsu can fire off Dragon Slayer spikes, and Erza can summon her Heaven’s Wheel armor.

It’s thrilling to see these abilities in action, and as you score, your magic gets powered up, allowing you to equip new passive abilities.

Playing with friends amplifies the fun, but the chaos can be overwhelming. The screen fills with so much action that it’s sometimes hard to track what’s happening or where the ball is. Despite that, fans of the series are in for a wild, enjoyable time.

Lots of Fanservice

Image

Fairy Tail is well-known for its over-the-top fan service, and this game definitely delivers on that front—not just in the usual ways, but also with its impressive magic abilities and iconic moments from the series. The real treat, though, is the massive roster of playable characters. With around 32 characters to choose from, each bringing their own unique powers and abilities, there's always something exciting to discover. Playing as different characters keeps things fresh, and seeing their magic in action is a blast. Personally, Juvia and Erza are my favorites—they bring their own special flair to the game!

Quick Bursts of Fun and Messy Gameplay

Image

This game shines in multiplayer mode, and luckily, it supports Remote Play in addition to local play. You can have up to four players, making for a chaotic and fun experience with quick matches that keep you coming back for more. There's a wide roster of characters to choose from, adding to the replayability. Even in single-player, the game holds up well, as the AI difficulty is mostly balanced. I recommend diving in for some quick, short bursts of gameplay—it’s a blast!

Things That FAIRY TAIL: Beach Volleyball Havoc Can Improve

Can Quickly Get Repetitive

Image

The game can be a lot of fun, but it quickly becomes repetitive, especially if you're playing solo. The main draw is unlocking new characters, and once you’ve done that, there’s not much left to do. It would be great to see future updates adding more maps and game modes to keep things fresh. With just one map and one game mode, it can lose its charm pretty quickly.

Visuals can be Distracting

Image

I do love the visuals, but they can be a bit overwhelming at times. The brightness and contrast can become distracting, especially with so many effects on screen while you're moving. It’s sometimes hard to keep track of the ball amidst all the action. While I appreciate the watercolor summer aesthetic they aimed for, it can be too intense and visually chaotic, particularly with the magic effects. There have been numerous instances where I lost track of the ball or what was happening because the screen was just too busy.

Is FAIRY TAIL: Beach Volleyball Havoc Worth It?

A Chaotic but Fun Time for Fairy Tail Fans

Image

This game is clearly designed with Fairy Tail fans in mind, and it’s a blast for those who know and love the series—definitely worth considering if you’re a fan. However, it’s not the best choice for newcomers. If you do decide to pick it up, it’s best enjoyed with fellow Fairy Tail fans, as playing with others makes the experience even better. Here’s hoping the developers add new modes and maps in the future to shake things up and reduce the repetition.
