4:LOOP Gameplay
Four-Player Co-Op Against Alien Threats
True to its name, 4:LOOP situates four players in replayable mission loops, each one different from the last. Players find themselves at the heart of the game, the Probability Map, which presents them with a variety of branching nodes containing missions. They must vote for a path to defeat the alien invaders before getting teleported to the mission.
Each mission entails not just surviving unique dangers, but also staying out of sight from the drop pods and kill bots sent by aliens to exterminate the team. To move forward, one must collect mission-critical resources and rescue survivors who can provide gear upgrades.
Even if a player dies, their teammate can revive or "reprint" them in the home base. The team can reconvene at home base to devise strategies, evolve the loadout, and choose rewards from gear and upgrades that increase in power as the mission progresses.
Boss Battles
At the end of each mission lies an ultimate confrontation among the many boss battles the game offers. One of them is called Scanner Boss, a large geologic surveyor shaped like a rotating 3D puzzle. Slow-moving, lethal lasers surrounding it push players to avoid contact, or they die. Spreading out while attacking it is a recommended strategy due to its rotating body.
Thinking Outside the Box
A vast array of items, mysterious objects, and strange creatures are strewn across the map. One of them is a Blink Root that produces Blink Berry, which players can collect to use on anyone and teleport them to a random faraway location. Moreover, there is a dynamic interaction among all the different combinations of enemies, weapons, items, and mission objectives, paving the way for emergent gameplay and runs.
With those factors in mind, the game emphasizes creativity and innovation in decision-making and utilizing their collected resources—no two runs are ever the same.
4:LOOP Story Plot
In 4:LOOP, four players must strategize to progress in missions fashioned to roguelike elements in an effort to save the world from alien invaders. Aside from this central scenario, there is no information yet about the four characters the players will use or whether there will be an overarching narrative beyond the shooter concept.
