Eternights Gameplay and Features
Complex Combat System
Eternights features fast-paced, real-time combat with various offensive and defensive options such as Elemental Attacks, Perfect Dodges, Parries, Special Skills, and Confidant Combat skills.
Judging by the trailer, the combat system seems well thought out and complex, however we will need to see how the game is balanced when it releases to confidently say whether it is enjoyable or not. That being said, assuming the game plays as smoothly as it looks in the trailer, we have plenty of reasons to be excited about this title.
Persona-style Calendar System
Studio Sai added an in-game calendar to instill a sense of urgency in the player since the story revolves around a countdown to the end of the world, making the players hyper-aware of their limited time.
This type of calendar system was popularized by the Persona series, but it's currently unclear which actions progress time forward in Eternights. Perhaps time moves forward in real-time, or maybe it behaves similar to the Persona series where you have a set amount of actions per day.
Romance Options & Visual Novel Elements
After seeing the fast-paced combat, we were somewhat surprised to see the trailer shift from intense action to a more laid back visual novel. Our first impression here is quite positive, this mix of elements promises refreshing pace changes going from hectic boss fights one moment to struggling to pick the right dialogue option in the dating sim sections.
Environments and Level Design
According to Studio Sai, new locations to explore have been added including different enemy types and challenges.
The dungeons were only briefly shown in the trailer, but from the little that we have seen, the environments look fitting for the game's post-apocolyptic theme. As for the level design, we'll have to see how dungeons are laid out when the game releases in the Summer of 2023.
Language Options
Japanese and Korean voices were added into the game. This will allow the players to play it in their preferred language.
Studio Sai will announce the Japanese voice actors in the near future.
