Sims 1 and 2 Port for Modern Platforms Speculated After Cryptic Teasers

EA mysteriously teased The Sims 1 and 2 via a social media post and an updated image on The Sims' official website. Read on to learn more about the franchise’s 25th-anniversary celebration and the possibility of bringing back its first two games.

The Sims Celebrating its 25th Anniversary

Allegedly Teases the Return of The Sims 1 and 2

Image

Electronic Arts (EA) allegedly teased the classic Sims titles The Sims 1 and 2 through its 25th anniversary update, as reported by Kotaku on January 27, 2025.

According to the report, the update showcased a "Sims 1 character and an interaction prompt wheel from The Sims 2," sparking rumors that the first two games of The Sims franchise are making a comeback.

Additionally, The Sims Twitter (X) account posted a short video on January 27, 2025, featuring the iconic Plumbob surrounded by The Sims 2’s radial menu, followed by colored squares in the background similar to Sims 1’s box art. They also captioned this social media post with "BRB."

Kotaku also mentioned that their source claimed "both games will be released digitally on PC later this week," including all their expansion packs. However, EA made no official announcement about The Sims 1 and 2’s official return just yet, so take this news with a grain of salt.

On the bright side, fans do not have to wait much longer as the 25th celebration started earlier this January 16, 2025. More news and updates will be released on February 4, 6, and 25, so tune in to official The Sims social media accounts for more updates!

The Sims 1 and 2 Overview

Image

The Sims 1 was released on February 4, 2000, for PC and is the first game in the popular franchise. In just two years, it overtook Myst as the best-selling PC game at the time, with 6.3 million copies sold worldwide. Maxis, its developer, released seven expansion packs for the game. It is currently difficult to play a legitimate copy because it was released on disc.

Four years later, and set 25 in-game years after the first Sims game, EA released The Sims 2 in a full 3D environment. It introduced mechanics like an age system, where Sims progressed from infancy to death. The game also added an aspiration system, giving each Sim a unique personality with different wants and needs.
With eight expansion packs and nine "stuff packs," The Sims 2 is packed with content for players to enjoy. The game’s Ultimate Edition was once available for free through Origin, an application where players can buy games developed by EA, but it was removed in 2014.

Considering both games are generally inaccessible to players and require different hardware and software specifications, EA and Maxis might be working on them if they intend to bring these games to modern platforms.
