Palworld Boss Says Switch Port Improbable Due to Technical Reasons

Devs Pocketpair Has Nothing Concrete to Announce Yet

In a recent interview with Game File, Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe shared insights on the challenges of bringing Palworld to the Nintendo Switch and hinted at the game's future developments. While not ruling out a Switch version entirely, Mizobe expressed concerns over technical difficulties. Discussion is still taking place about "new platforms" Palworld could be released on, but Pocketpair has nothing to announce at this stage, as explained by Mizobe.

Despite the game's high PC specifications making a Switch port challenging, Mizobe remained optimistic about expanding the game's reach. Earlier this month, he mentioned, in regard to a Switch port, "Palworld’s specs on PC are higher than the Switch’s specs. So maybe it’s hard to port to Switch just for technical reasons."

Regarding future platform availability, Mizobe has not specified if Palworld could come to PlayStation, Nintendo, or mobile devices. In an interview with Bloomberg earlier in the year, Mizobe confirmed that Pocketpair is in talks to bring the game to more platforms. Additionally, Mizobe noted that the company is open to partnership or acquisition offers but has not engaged in buyout talks with Microsoft.

Wants Palworld to Have More 'Ark' or 'Rust' Elements

In addition to platform discussions, Mizobe revealed ambitions for the game's multiplayer features. The upcoming arena mode, which the Palworld boss described as "kind of an experiment," paves the way for more multiplayer experiences in the game. "My dream is to achieve a true PvP mode in Palworld," Mizobe said. "I want more of the Ark or Rust style."

Ark and Rust are both popular survival games that feature challenge-rich environments, deep resource management mechanics, and extensive player interactions that include forming alliances and tribes. Both games offer a mix of PvE and PvP elements. In ARK, players must contend with dangerous wildlife, including dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures, as well as environmental challenges like extreme weather and natural disasters. Rust presents similar environmental challenges, including wildlife and radiation zones.

Palworld, Pocketpair's creature collection and survival shooter game, has captivated the gaming community's attention since its release. Players can capture creatures called Pals, use them to build bases, among a myriad of other functions, and fight for survival.

Palworld had a phenomenal launch, selling 15 million copies on PC in its first month. The game also drew 10 million players on Xbox, where it is included in the Game Pass subscription service. Palworld is set to roll out a major update with the release of the free Sakurajima update on Thursday, introducing a new island, the much-anticipated PvP arena, and more.
