Gran Turismo Sport has just shut down its online servers for good, but not before making its online features available offline. Read on to learn more about the situation and which of the game’s features are offline-accessible.
Say Goodbye to Gran Turismo Sport’s Multiplayer
Online Services and Functions are Now Inaccessible
It’s always the bitter farewells that get you. Effective on February 1st, 2024, PS4 exclusive Gran Turismo Sport will be permanently shutting down its online servers, rendering multiplayer and other online functionalities inaccessible.
Originally released in 2017, Gran Turismo Sport was met with mixed reviews and a lukewarm reception due to its focus on online play, which was a significant departure from other games within the series. The game still managed to sell 13 million copies despite this, though such sales proved ineffective in swaying the decision to shut down its online servers for good.
Polyphony Digital — the game’s developer — teased the shutdown in late 2023 and followed it up by pulling out all of the game’s DLC from the PlayStation store a couple of months after.
At the time of writing, the following online functionalities are no longer available for Gran Turismo Sport:
● Online Trophies
● Mileage Store
● Garage Car Liveries
● Seasonal Events
● Open Lobby.
Career Mode Progression and Save Data Accessible Offline
However, all isn’t lost for GTS fans, as Polyphony recently rolled out an update that allows certain online-dependent services to become offline accessible. These include Career Mode Progression and the contents of each player’s garages. As is the case with most games for the console, GTS save data can now be backed up on the console itself without the need for online connectivity.
This doesn’t recover access to the aforementioned online services, however, as those still require developer-side servers to function. This also only applies to consoles that already have GTS downloaded as the game itself was delisted from the PlayStation Store without warning in early January 2024.
