Bring Out The Pitchforks
In the E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) of 2018, Todd Howard, a Bethesda director, showed an official announcement teaser for Elder Scrolls 6. Apparently, they did not want to make this decision, and they only did so to please an "angry gamer mob" who have grown frustrated due to Bethesda’s silence regarding ES6 development. The teaser was launched 7 years after its massively successful predecessor, Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.
This information was recently shared on the MinnMax gaming podcast by Bruce Nesmith, one of Bethesda’s former design directors, renowned for his contributions to some iconic titles such as Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Skyrim. You have to remember the company took years of hits for not talking about Elder Scrolls 6. I mean, years of hits. Because Todd’s opinion—one which I share, by the way—is that the video game industry has short memories,
said Nesmith. The best time to start talking about it is six months before releases. [...] So, only the fact that everybody was—you know, the pitchforks and torches were out. It got Todd to say, ‘Yes, we’re going to do Elder Scrolls 6. I promise you, it’s for real. It’ll happen.'
The teaser video didn’t contain much, as it was just a short cinematic of a mountainous land accompanied by music. It served as some sort of reassurance to fans that the game is indeed coming. Since then, Bethesda has remained secretive regarding the awaited game’s development.
While Nesmith isn’t currently working with Bethesda anymore, he expressed his confidence in some of his ideas still being a part of the game. Despite all the uncertainty regarding the game, one thing we’re sure about is that Elder Scrolls 6 will follow the trend of Starfield, and not be released on PlayStation.
