Celeste Celebrates 6th Anniv with Free 3D Platformer
Mod-Friendly and Made in Just About a Week
Celeste developers Maddy Makes Games and EXOK Games released a free 3D platformer, Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain, to commemorate the game's 6th anniversary. Celeste was released six years ago in 2018 and became an instant indie hit.
The game currently boasts a 97% 'Positive' rating on Steam. Celeste is a narrative-driven, single-player adventure platformer that follows Madeline as she tackles her depression and anxiety on her journey to the top of Celeste Mountain. In Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain, you can relive the magic of Celeste Mountain alongside Madeline in the "small, heartfelt 3D platformer."
The Celeste team shared on the game's official itch.io page that they made Celeste 64 in about a "week(ish)."
The game turned out to be quite mod-friendly as YouTube content creators have shared their own custom levels they created in the game.
YouTuber hacktic demonstrated the ease of modding the game as Celeste 64's asset files, such as the 3D character models and environmental objects, are saved in a readable .glb format. The source code for Celeste 64 is available on the project's official GitHub.
MacOS Version Coming Soon
Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain is out now for free on PC via itch.io. The developers announced on Twitter (X) that a MacOS version is in the works. While a version for Apple users is in the making, the developers also shared bug fixes implemented in the new 3D platformer. Here are the notes from the developers:
● Locale crash should be fixed
● Being detected as a virus should be fixed; believe it was due to the .NET version.
● Fixed the Speedrun Timer rounding hours up (ex. so 1.6 hours would display as 2 hours)
● Fixed an OpenGL error on Linux (and probably Windows)
● Fixed the FMOD Symlink's on Linux (better more permanent fix incoming)
● Shows the Version Number on the title screen now
