Dune: Awakening Coming on May 20

No Early Access and No Monthly Subscription

Dune: Awakening developer Funcom confirmed that the game’s expected launch date on May 20 will be its full release, not an early access. The game’s latest blog post on Steam on March 21 provided more information regarding its business model, system requirements, and post-launch plans.

The upcoming multiplayer survival game based on the 1965 epic science fiction novel will not have a monthly subscription, despite MMO competitors such as Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online having this business model. Instead, Dune: Awakening "will continue to be expanded through free updates, bringing new content, features, and enhancements."

Funcom stated that the game will continue to be supported for a long time after its launch, and pointed out their experience in handling live service games. Other MMO games by Funcom are Anarchy Online, which will be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year, and Conan Exiles, which still consistently receives free updates, DLCs, and expansions beyond its release.

Pre-ordering any of the three editions of the game—Standard, Deluxe, or Ultimate—will give players two unique in-game items: the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, which is a detailed in-base decoration, and Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a unique color pattern that can be applied to weapons, vehicles, and armor.
