Dragon Age: The Veilguard Gameplay

Character Creation

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is an action RPG that allows players to create a character—known as "Rook" in the game—fully from the ground up. Rook's class, lineage, gender, and overall appearance are customizable. Rook's gender along with certain player choices can unlock additional dialogue options in conversations.

Quests

Players can complete several types of Quests in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. These include Main Story Quests that serve as the campaign of the game, Companion Quests that serve as side quests that give players the opportunity to learn more about the 7 main companions in the game, Faction and Region Quests which help players improvel their standing with different factions, and Side Quests which are composed of different challenges.

Class-Based Combat

In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you can choose between three combat classes for the player character: Warrior, Rogue, and Mage, with each class containing different sets of skills and abilities that can be leveled up. Each class shares four core move: jump, dodge, light attack, and heavy attack, which can all be chained together.

Warriors They command the flow of the battlefield. Some lay waste with sword and shield, while others use a two-handed weapon to send enemies flying.
Mages They rain down fury with spells that incinerate, freeze, electrocute and crush. Some cast from afar, while others prefer close quarters combat.
Rogues They thrive on their quick movement and reflexes. Whether wielding a bow or dual swords, they use powerful, precise strikes for lethal damage.

The game also enables players to freely swap between their weapons during the midst of combat, be it melee or ranged. Each class has close-quarter and ranged attacks, blocks or parries, and the ability to control Companions’ combat strategy.

Abilities and Specialization Areas

Many of Rook's Abilities function as either a "Primer" or a "Detonator," allowing players to set up powerful combos with their Companions. In general, Combo Attacks can be performed through coordinated use of Abilities using the Ability Wheel. Each class in the game—Warrior, Rogue, and Mage—comes with a range of unique Abilities that can be enhanced through Specializations, with each set of abilities customizable by spending skill points.

Every skill point invested enhances Rook, and gradually shapes them to fit your chosen playstyle. As Rook progresses, they gain access to the different Specializations that unlock powerful, class-specific abilities. These specializations also come with Class Ultimate Abilities, the most powerful ability in Rook’s arsenal.
