RoboCop: Rogue City Review
RoboCop: Rogue City First Impressions
By the looks of the gameplay footage we have so far, RoboCop: Rogue City is on a mission to give you the definitive experience of being part-man, part-machine, and all-cop. RoboCop (Alex Murphy) moves as slow as a tank, but he can take bullets and explosives like it’s nothing. Having a computer in his brain, Murphy can highlight enemies, track their movement, and shoot enemies on the fly. He also can slow down time, giving him more space to hit enemies with precision.
Aside from his trusty Auto-9 Handgun, he can also pick up weapons dropped by enemies, including a Uzi and a Kalashnikov assault rifle. Murphy can even pick up objects like computer monitors and chuck them at his enemies. He’ll be using this fine arsenal on all manner of criminals - from average street punks to members of more organized crime groups.
But the game’s most attention-grabbing aspect is how it nails the late 80’s aesthetic of the movies. The TV studio that Murphy will clear of punks has all the elements of a retro office with angular tables, computer and TV CRT monitors, and even period-accurate corporate art. The character models are also very detailed, with Murphy, Officer Lewis, and even the newscaster Casey Wong, all closely resembling their film counterparts.
The only thing that needs improvement so far is the game’s lackluster voice acting. Both Murphy and Lewis sound very lethargic despite the gravity of the cases they have to crack, and the rest of the cast isn’t doing that great either except for the guy playing Max Becker.
Everything We Know About RoboCop: Rogue City
RoboCop: Rogue City Story Plot
Set between the events of RoboCop 2 and 3, Officer Alex Murphy has to rid Detroit’s streets of criminals once again as a crime lord known only as the "New Guy" arrives with the ambition of becoming its new crime lord.
RoboCop: Rogue City Gameplay
RoboCop: Rogue City is a first-person shooter at heart, with some added tweaks on account that you’re playing as a hulking cyborg. Alex Murphy moves slowly and methodically, but he can take many hits from small arms fire because of his armor. The computer systems in his brain also allow him to automatically highlight enemies within his field of vision. All of these come together to create the most accurate representation of how RoboCop dispenses justice - one bullet at a time.
The game itself is divided into stages, and depending on what Murphy does - from saving hostages to collecting evidence - he will gain experience points. These points can then be put toward upgrades provided by OCP. These come in the form of better armor, higher weapon damage, more health, better focus, and even better dialogue options. This gives the game some light RPG elements as well.
So far, what we’re expecting is an FPS with RPG elements, with its biggest selling point being the "RoboCop" experience of being a tough, armored cyborg policeman.
