Everything We Know About Assassin's Creed Mirage

Assassin's Creed Mirage Story Plot

Image

Assassin’s Creed Mirage follows Basim as he goes from being a street thief to a full-fledged member of the Assassin Brotherhood, with most of the action taking place in Baghdad in the ninth century, during the Islamic Golden Age.

Slight spoilers for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Basim is the human reincarnation of Loki and was first introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. With little of what is known about Basim, Mirage looks to explore his backstory and induction into the Brotherhood.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Gameplay

Image

The series sees its return to its roots in terms of gameplay, bringing back a more action-adventure feel that the earlier titles based their gameplay on. Stealthier gameplay and a much more focused, linear experience can be expected from Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage features new assassination animations, upgradable Assassins Tools, and a mechanic that enables Basim to set traps. Basim is also confirmed to get classic Assassin tools such as throwing knives and smoke bombs, as well as new abilities.

Assassin's Focus

Image

Assassin's Focus, a new ability that Basim uses, allows players to mark and assassinate several targets in a row.

Pole Vault

In addition to climbing, leaping, and swinging, the game also features a brand new mechanic called Pole Vault. Pole Vault allows Basim to use a pole to move around from one place to another, letting him cover a large ground area.

Assassin's Creed Mirage - What’s the Buzz!?

Assassin's Creed Mirage Search Trends

Image

Ubisoft officially announced Assassin’s Creed Mirage starting with a world premiere announcement trailer in September 2022. The first gameplay trailer for Assassin’s Creed Mirage was released the following year, May 2023. Most of the content we got highlighted the game’s back-to-roots gameplay, putting heavy emphasis on methodical assassinations and efficient traversing of the map using the game’s parkour mechanics.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage released a new story trailer and gameplay demo in June, a month after players were shown an overview of the general feel of the game. Ubisoft made an announcement in August stating that they have finished development on the game and moved its launch date to October 5, 2023.

Assassin's Creed Mirage’s Popularity Compared to Other Games

Image

We took three other games releasing in the same month, namely, Lords of the Fallen, Spider-Man 2, and Alan Wake 2, and compared them to Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s search interest over the past 12 months to find out which among the games seems to have gotten the fans the most excited about.

  • Blue = Assassin’s Creed Mirage
  • Red = Lords of the Fallen
  • Yellow = Spider-Man 2
  • Green = Alan Wake 2

Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man 2 ranks first in this comparison. Spider-Man 2 is a highly anticipated and exciting title for the PS5, and it has captured the attention and enthusiasm of gamers through its wave of announcements and reveals. After the PlayStation Showcase event highlighted a significant amount of content related to it, even more of Spider-Man 2 was revealed in San Diego Comic-Con 2023, including a brand new game story trailer, plotlines, and character dynamics.

Fans are particularly keen to see how the dual-protagonist system plays out. The sequel will allow players to freely switch between Peter Parker and Miles Morales and play through a variety of missions.

A majority of fans say that Spider-Man 2 raises the bar for superhero games, making it one of the most highly anticipated releases in the latter half of 2023.

Lords of the Fallen
Lords of the Fallen ranks second in this comparison. Lords of the Fallen seems to be well received, particularly with the Soulslike community. It quickly found its place on players’ list of games to look out for after its official announcement at Gamescom Opening Night 2022. It’s a highly anticipated game that has been said to "perfectly capture the Souls genre".

The game boasts exciting gameplay features and a stunning gothic world, and it looks to be a promising and highly-improved sequel. The game keeps its fans on their toes as a new gameplay trailer was released at the beginning of September 2023.

Alan Wake 2
Alan Wake 2 ranks third in this comparison. The long-awaited sequel has left its fanbase abuzz with the introduction of Mr. Door and the reveal of a more horrifying, suspenseful survival experience. The decision to set up the sequel as a stand-alone title allows the game to welcome newcomers to the series while still being able to pack in more lore for existing fans.

There was a surge in search interest for Alan Wake 2 after the game unveiled more about the title’s protagonist at Gamescom Opening Night. Fans also got treated to a new gameplay trailer and a live-action trailer.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Assassin’s Creed Mirage ranks last in this comparison. It’s quite surprising, as the game comes from a long-standing series. It seems it has failed to appeal to the AC community and to tap into new audiences in the gaming community.

The new iteration generated quite a buzz when it was announced in September last year, but it seems it has not become as anticipated as the three other games listed, despite continuous marketing efforts and rolling out various trailers and in-depth dives into the sequel.

So far, the first impressions on Assassin’s Creed Mirage have been mixed, but most of the positivity is centered around the excitement over the game’s return to the playstyle that earlier AC titles had perfectly executed.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Hype Verdict

Keep an Eye Out

Assassin’s Creed Mirage shows a lot of promise and is an ambitious reiteration of the series’ earlier titles. We think it’s a game to certainly keep an eye out for, whether you’re a lifelong fan or someone who is only getting to sink into the world of Assassin’s Creed. The game seems like the perfect reintroduction to the series’ game philosophy with the exciting focus on a sneakier and stealthier playstyle in a city designed to be packed and dense.
