Pocket Bravery is an indie 2D fighting game that was able to capture my attention with its hand-drawn pixel art style, smooth animations, and familiar gameplay systems.
The game is heavily inspired by classic fighting game franchises like Street Fighter, King of Fighters, and Fatal Fury which is sure to draw attention to experienced fighting game players while being able to introduce the classic systems to newer players.
Pocket Bravery Plot
A strange phenomenon has affected the world, and a few people have started to be able to feel and manifest this energy called the Ichor. Some are able to throw energy through their hands, others are able to use the energy to reinforce their bodies, while a select few are able to transfer their essence to objects and weapons.
Matilha, a criminal organization, wants to steal ancient artifacts and relics involving several nations and notable individuals into the fray. Follow each character’s story as they try to discover the mystery of the Ichor in their own way.
Pocket Bravery Gameplay
Pocket Bravery is a one-on-one 2D fighting game that takes many similarities to King of Fighters and Street Fighter. The game features two different resource gauges, one of which is the Regular or Super Gauge to execute different super special moves similar to Super Arts in Street Fighter that can be canceled from normal attacks.
The second resource gauge is the Elemental Gauge which is used to enhance special moves similar to EX special moves in both Street Fighter and King of Fighters.
The game features a diverse cast of characters that have vastly different gameplans and combos, take, for example, Nuno Alvez, who is a rushdown type of character who would want to get in close to their opponent and smother them with offense. The game features multiple game modes namely the Story Mode, Arcade Mode, Local Versus, Online Mode that features Rollback Netcode to ensure a smooth connection between two players, and Extra Modes like Trials, Survival Mode, Time Attack, etc.
