DLC Development Noted to be Proceeding Smoothly in Kadokawa Corporation’s Financial Earning Presentation
Kadokawa Corporation recently conducted a Financial Earnings presentation where they provided an update on Elden Ring's upcoming DLC Shadow of the Erdtree. It was mentioned that the development is “proceeding smoothly”.
While fans have had a taste of new content with the free Coliseum update, which introduced PvP arenas and modes, Shadow of the Erdtree promises to be a substantial addition to the Elden Ring universe.
No Release Date Yet for Shadow of the Erdtree
Shadow of the Erdtree was announced earlier in the first quarter of 2023 as a major expansion coming to Elden Ring, but FromSoftware hasn't indicated any release window despite the game approaching its two-year anniversary. Likewise, fans have only been treated to concept arts along with the announcement to tide their enthusiasm.
In terms of sales, Kadokawa Corporation stated in the Q2 2023 financial report that they had experienced a decline on a Year-to-Date (YTD) basis, especially compared to the previous year when Elden Ring significantly contributed to the sales. However, a notable uptick was observed during the second quarter, which was attributed to the successful launch of Armored Core 6 in August 2023. The report highlighted that Armored Core 6 achieved substantial success, having sold over 700,000 copies in Japan alone.
Additionally, it was emphasized that “repeat sales” of FromSoftware's entire back catalog, including Elden Ring, remained consistent. The studio also expressed its commitment to maximizing Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) for Elden Ring, indicating strategic efforts to enhance the overall gaming experience and player engagement.
