Masters of Albion Ties a Bow on Molyneux’s Work
"Cozy Creativity by Day, Brutal Survival by Night"

Masters of Albion is set to launch exclusively on PC via Steam on April 22, 2026 at 10:00 PST / 13:00 EST / 18:00 BST, with a new release trailer dropped last Monday. First announced by god game pioneer Peter Molyneux and his studio 22Cans at Gamescom 2024, the upcoming game showcases a blend of "strategy, simulation, town management, and real-time defence" wrapped in a story-rich world.
According to 22Cans, the new god game aims to expand the genre, promising players the "extraordinary freedom" to use any playstyle they like. Choices vary between customizing the town buildings, commanding the land of Albion as a deity, and defending it from monsters at night. Moreover, key narrative and gameplay themes feature "power and responsibility, industry versus ancient magic, freedom of choice and consequence," and "cosy creativity contrasted with chaos and danger."
Molyneux confirmed in an interview with IGN in 2025 that the game takes place in the same Medieval Britain-inspired nation of Albion from the Fable series. However, he clarified that the similarities stop there because Masters of Albion exists outside of Fable's events.

Molyneux is credited with leading the god game genre as early as 1989 with the landmark game Populous. In a press release, he remarked that Masters of Albion is the culmination of his career, built on ideas from his earlier titles: Fable, Black & White, and Dungeon Keeper.
The announcement coincided with Molyneux previously indicating that he would like his next project to be his last. "I'm 66 years old. I'm working as hard as I've ever worked in my life. And I just haven't got the life energy to do this again," he stated in an interview with Edge.
Fans Skeptical Due to Molyneux’s Previous Overhyping

However, many fans were not convinced by Molyneux's promotion of Masters of Albion as a grand reimagining of the god game genre. Responding to Molyneux's claim that the title is his chance at redemption, a user on Twitter (X) pointed out that "he has had a million chances."
In 2023, Molyneux expressed regret about overhyping game features that ultimately did not make the final cut. "As any unfinished project goes, quite often things change in that development progress and I think people mistook that as being promises of features in the game," he added.
According to SteamDB, Masters of Albion currently ranks #428 in top wishlists and #458 in wishlist activity, amassing a total of over 9,700 followers.
