Witchfire Devs Share Game Roadmap
Future Massive Updates
Witchfire developers, The Astronauts, plan to add a massive amount of content in the game’s future updates. So far, they plan to add the following:
● 6 maps with one big raid level, Witch Mountain (2 currently in game)
● 6 bosses (2 currently in-game)
● 46 enemy types (22 currently in-game)
● 31 Weaps (7 currently in-game)
● 24 Magical Items (9 currently in-game)
● 20 spells (9 currently in-game)
● New traps, events, Calamities, NPCs, and more
A few disclaimers are mentioned by the devs. First, this is the first time they’ve provided a roadmap, and they’re intentionally keeping things vague to keep the game fresh and surprising. Second, they aim to release huge updates every two months, though schedules may change with their small, 12-person team. Finally, any planned updates are subject to change if they learn that it contradicts their goal of making the best game possible.
Furthermore, the devs promise to improve the game based on early access feedback. The first big update, the GGU patch, is set to arrive in the 2nd half of November. However, the devs note that this could be delayed to December as they would rather wait than cut the scope of content for the said release.
Priorities and Long Term Goals
In addition to the massive content update, the devs included their short and long-term goals for Witchfire. Currently, they’re primarily focused on releasing the first big update and making changes to the game’s core structure. The game’s leveling, difficulty, Calamities, and Arcana systems might be updated, but the devs note that they do not want to break the game’s spine.
In the long term, they are planning for even more content, such as events, activities, hidden areas, and more. Worldbuilding will also be expanded, and players can still expect consistent optimizations and QoL updates, including better opening hours.
What is Witchfire?
Witchfire is a dark fantasy first-person shooter set in an alternate world, where witches are very real and very dangerous. The player takes on the role of a witch hunter armed with spells and firearms. The game is a unique blend of soulslike, extraction, and roguelite elements, offering a challenging but very satisfying gameplay experience. The game is currently exclusive to PC via the Epic Games Store.
Its developers, The Astronauts, comprise of only 12 people. They released their first game, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, back in 2014, which won the 2015 BAFTA Award for Best Game Innovation.
