The Biggest Names Of The Mobile Gacha Market
The Hunt For The Rarest And Strongest Continues
Thanks to the hard work of the folks and systems over at Sensor Tower, players can access financial data to determine how their favorite games are doing. The details can also be used to determine which games are preferred over the other, which helps to influence the direction future games can take. Please note that Sensor Tower's data only includes values taken from Android and iOS, so the scope is limited to the mobile platform. Furthermore, this list will only reflect data from the games' English or Global servers.
Well, without further ado, here are the results of 2023 up until August.
Highest-Grossing Mobile Gacha Games As of August 2023
3. Goddess of Victory: NIKKE ($218M)
The wildly popular mobile shooter game Goddess of Victory: NIKKE by SHIFT-UP and Level Infinite continues to impress its players and empty their wallets with their recent Summer banners, completely inundating the player base with a multitude of things to spend their hard-earned money on.
2. Honkai: Star Rail ($246M)
Within less than half a year, HoYoverse's smash hit mobile game Honkai: Star Rail has displaced Goddess of Victory: NIKKE from the second place, despite having a nearly four-month headstart against the former. This may be thanks in part to their banner runs for Kafka and Imbibitor Lunae, which were both highly sought after by many players for their amazing character design and performance.
1. Genshin Impact ($354M)
To the surprise of nobody, HoYoverse's critically-acclaimed open-world RPG, Genshin Impact, still holds the top spot.
Genshin Impact's release of Fontaine wasn't quite the huge hit in terms of increasing its mobile revenue. And although it still holds the top spot, it shouldn't rest on its laurels just yet. According to Sensor Tower's data, Genshin Impact has been consistently losing against its younger sister, Honkai: Star Rail's numbers ever since it was released. It may only be a matter of time before we see the queen get dethroned.
Runner-Ups
Besides the top three games, there are other massively-successful mobile gacha games for interested players to note. Here are the top seven games that have failed to take the top three from the giants in the first half of 2023, yet have proven themselves to be among the best in the market.

Notable Mobile Gacha Games That Released By August 2023
5. Aether Gazer ($4.5M)
Described by few as a more accessible version of Punishing Gray Raven, it's been a few months since Aether Gazer released on May 23, 2023. But, it still continues to impress players with its amazing characters and forgiving economy. Will the game ever be released on PC? We can only hope.
4. Danmachi: Battle Chronicle ($600K)
Finally, a mobile game adaptation of a popular anime series that isn't a complete disappointment. Released on August 24, 2023, Danmachi: Battle Chronicle is a dungeon crawler action RPG overflowing with nostalgia for fans of the series. Players new and old to the series will be able to experience the fun romps of Bell and the gang as they grind through areas filled with baddies.
3. Brown Dust 2 ($8M)
Created as a nostalgic throwback to the good old times, Brown Dust 2 has developed to become a truly memorable mobile game to play. With a vastly improved economy since its release on June 22, 2023, enjoyable stories, and engaging gameplay, it continues to pull people back to immerse themselves in its beautiful aesthetics and music.
2. Snowbreak: Containment Zone ($2.4M)
Snowbreak: Containment Zone took the mobile world by storm when it showed its features through its trailers. And during the months leading to its official release on July 20, 2023, the game has only improved itself and has become the one of the platform's best PvE-focused third-person shooting games.
1. Honkai: Star Rail ($246M)
HoYoverse once again showed the entire world their mastery at captivating people with the release of Honkai: Star Rail on April 26, 2023. It immediately overthrew even its big sister, Genshin Impact, in terms of hype and praise. In fact, the game was so successful in its opening week, that it broke the record of being the most downloaded game in the most number of countries on iOS by far.
Honorable Mention: Higan: Eruthyll ($2M)
Higan: Eruthyll is notable in quite an unfortunate way. Although it was released on April 6, 2023 to much fanfare from players and content creators alike, it swiftly dropped from everybody's attention due to the release of what is perhaps the biggest mobile game title of the year, the previously mentioned Honkai: Star Rail. Plagued as it was with many issues and an overall disappointing gameplay loop, the game has since been struggling to stay relevant.
