The story takes place in the year 1208, amid Calvard Republic's economic boom and social turbulence. You’ll play as Van Arkride, a Spriggan working as a bounty hunter in Edith, who gets entangled in a quest initiated by prim-and-proper young lade. She seeks the elusive Oct-Genesis, a creation of her late great grandfather enlisting Van's help.

In the Calvard Republic, the spriggan embodies just one of many occupations. From detective work to negotiation and bounty hunting, Van Arkride delves into tasks that mainstream avenues shun. Whether hidden from public view or nestled within the underworld's depths, any job finds consideration in Van Arkride's realm.

The story follows a series of chapters, each depicting a day in the bustling city of Edith. Within these chapters, players have the freedom to engage with characters and pursue side missions. Trails Through Daybreak introduces an alignment system rooted in concepts of law, chaos, and a blend of the two.
