Thunderite Boss Guide: Recommended Setup and How to Beat

After first finishing the Sub-Quest Taking Root, the new Sub-Quest Mixed Feelings will become available in Ulzebek. After starting the quest and talking to Nayth, head to the Iglia Wastes and head into the western-most tip of the map, where you'll find a large boulder you can destroy with Law's help – beyond that point is Thunderite.

Attack Only When Advantageous

With strong defenses and fast attacks, Thunderite can quickly turn the tables on you if you're attempting to go on the offensive. It can be difficult to properly analyze how it behaves whenever you attack it due to the numerous amount of attacks it has, so it is recommended that you hang back for a moment once the fight commences to observe its behavior.

When going on an attack run, try and focus your attacks to its sides. Heavy uses of Alphen's Boost Attack to frequently cause it to stay down on the ground is a good strategy to momentarily stop it from moving or attacking.

Run Around When It Enters Over Limit State

During the second phase of the fight, whenever it enters its Over Limit state, run far away from it, as it will cause a whirling pool of water to appear where your controller character stands to avoid causing damage to your other party members. It will then charge at you, which can be dodged with some difficulty.

Stay around the edges of the battle area during this, as Thunderite will perform this set of attacks two times.

Bring Plenty of Items

Fighting against Thunderite is a test in attrition, as it will cause you and your party the same damage that you can cause it. To prevent Shionne from wasting valuable time away from being able to cast her Artes, bring along plenty of recovery items to provide your party a quick solution to any low HP or CP.

Switch Between Characters Frequently

Due to its strong attacks and habit of focusing on other characters apart from the player-controlled one, practice frequently switching control between your party members to direct them away from Thunderite's attacks. Managing to do this can save you not only valuable healing items, but also preserves your character's HP for the later, and much more difficult, stages of the fight.

Increase Defenses

Instead of equipping Accessories to boost your attack parameters, you can instead put on accessories that will boost your defenses against the elements, particularly against Water. This will help to blunt some of Thunderites' attacks, allowing you to focus more on causing it damage rather than having to heal frequently.

Use Flaming Edge Attacks

Alphen's Flaming Edge attacks are particularly useful against Thunderite, able to cause thousands of damage per hit. The only drawback to making use of them is the significant reduction in his health. If using these attacks, be sure that you have brought along many recovery items to quickly heal him after unleashing his attacks.

Focus On Attacks

If you have brought along many recovery items, you can have Shionne focus more on casting Fire-based Artes against Thunderite instead of having to frequently heal your party members. Repeatedly use her Artes to cause numerous and significant amounts of damage against the zeugle.

Can Be Replaced With Dohalim

Although she is a secondary attacker with her own Fire-based Artes, you can replace her with Dohalim to reduce spread the healing duties of the party away from Shionne. This makes sure that if one of them goes down, the other can resurrect them or heal the party when needed.

Use Boost Attacks

Law's Boost Attacks are a good alternative if Rinwell's or Alphen's are unavailable. You will have to time his attacks, however, to whenever Thunderite opens its arms or tails out to stagger it. Patiently wait for these moments before unleashing the attack.

Thunderite Attack Patterns

Tail and Claw Attacks

Its common set of attacks, usually done in defense of itself, will involve its tail and claws. When attacking its Weak Point, it will use the long tails it has to whip around, which can cause severe amounts of damage for any party member unfortunate enough to get caught in their reach. It can also whirl around, using its claws to sweep you aside to also cause significant damage.

Thunderite will, however, use its claws to primarily go on the offensive, swinging them twice while moving forwards, or hold it in front of itself during its Over Limit state before charging towards you.

Electric Attacks

When attacking it from behind during the second phase of the fight, it will sink its tails into the ground, causing electric energy to build up around it, which can immediately cause the Paralysis Physical Ailment. As soon as it sinks its tails into the ground, move away to prevent yourself from becoming an easy target to its follow-up attacks.

Water Attacks

Commonly performed throughout the entire fight, Thunderite is capable of doing a variety of water attacks, with these being:

• A Spread that it will usually conduct on any character attacking it from far away;
• A cyclonic water attack that it will cast during its Over Limit state, right before charing you;
• A concentrated beam of water it shoots from side to side and;
• A wave of water will shoot out to surge in a straight line moving away from itself.

Some of these attacks, like Spread and the wave of water it shoots out, can be interrupted by well-placed Boost Attacks from Rinwell or Alphen, which also causes it to collapse to the ground.
