In order to obtain the most points possible, you should aim for a high position and use items to knock your opponents out of the lead.
Starting with a Rocket Start will give you the advantage to take an early lead in the race. You can also get the highest bonus score possible if done correctly.
You can perform a lot of Mini-Turbos on this course! Donut Plains has a lot of curved areas and has a wide racing track so it will be easy for you to perform one. You can also perform an Ultra Mini-Turbo boost in the late game. Ultra Mini-Turbo boost will give you more points than the Mini-Turbo boost.
Access the shortcut in the early game only if you have a Mushroom with you. Using a mushroom will give you the needed speed. Going outside the racing track will slow you down.
Do not forget that you can throw your items forward or backward to your opponents. Hitting an opponent will also give you certain points and can also give you the chance to get ahead of them. Just remember to save at least one item at your back (like bananas or green shells) to block your opponents' attack from behind.

I'm loving these new donut plain courses because of the wide road. There are also no obstacles like pipes and spilled oils compared to mario circuit 2 courses. And yeah you can easily practice drifting if you're a newbie in this game!
>>4 I agree. I can do ultra turbos in this course!
