Leviathan Focus Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Ace Monster - Number 17 - Leviathan Dragon.png

Monsters equipped with the Focus Skill scale incredibly well from the start up until the late game of a Duel. Most of the monsters that have access to it have generically low stats, but when left to their own devices, they will keep boosting their ATK at every Battle Phase.

Having as many Focus-equipped monsters on the field as possible is crucial, so that when Number 17: Leviathan Dragon comes into play, its Master Skill further boosts their scaling. At that point, the stats of the monsters can take the opponents by surprise.

Early Plays

During the early turns, try to play standard. As with most Decks, do not spend most of your resources on hand. Use your Spells and Traps liberally as you wish, keeping your Focus-equipped monsters alive for as long as possible until the Xyz Monster is brought out.

There is an ideal combo out of all the monsters in this Deck. The turn Number 17: Leviathan Dragon was summoned, you should summon two other monsters equipped with ATK Support to further boost the ATK of all the monsters on the field. The more stacks of ATK Support, the higher the boost.

When to Summon Your Ace Monster

Set up the field to have at least 2 Level 3 monsters on the field at any given time, so by the middle of the Duel around Turns 3-6 there are monsters on the field that can be used as material if need be to bring out Leviathan Dragon.

Leviathan Focus Deck Counters: How to Beat

Specific Ace Monsters

Blue-Eyes White Dragon

Blue-Eyes White Dragon Summoned.png

One of the most powerful Ace Monsters in the game, Blue-Eyes White Dragon already has immediate impact with its Master Skill of destroying a monster upon being summoned. Said effect is a danger to Leviathan Dragon, so try to summon your ace after a Blue-Eyes is out.

Number 39: Utopia

Ace Monster - Number 39 - Utopia.png

Number 39: Utopia is a very powerful monster in battle, with its ability to stack the ATK Debuff skill for every monster it battles and destroys through its Master Skill. While the Focus-equipped monsters can chip down Utopia, it is far too many resources worth to deal with Utopia. If one is summoned, best hope it's not on a lane heading your way.

Elemental HERO Neos

Ace Monster - Elemental HERO Neos.png

Elemental HERO Neos is a rather pesky monster that can keep being brought back to the field because of its Special or Master Skill. Being sent back to the hand upon being destroyed essentially makes the monster immortal in nature, and for sure will come back onto the field--even faster because of Superspeed granted to the monster.

Deck Counters

Effect Negations

Gorgon Breakthrough Skill Compulsory Evacuation Device

The Focus effects are crucial for the Deck's offensive power and scaling into the late game of a Duel. While very rare in the current card pool in Cross Duel, cards that negate Skills can easily debilitate the power of the monsters.

Disruption Effects

Detonate Enemy Controller Swords of Revealing Light Poisonous Winds
Wall of Disruption Michizure Lightforce Sword Shadow Spell

A very important part of a Leviathan Focus deck is the momentum it has. It's needed for the monsters equipped with Focus to start snowballing with each turn's Battle Phase.

Various cards that stop monsters, decrease their stats or immobilize them can wreck a Leviathan Focus Deck quickly before the player realizes it.
