How to Summon a Link Monster

Get the Required Number of Summon Materials

Link Monsters require a specific number of Summon Materials to place them on the field. Most of the time, Monsters count as a single Summon Material, but there are few cases where it will be different.

Link Monsters are determined by the color blue on their frames and won't have a Monster level, unlike other Monster cards. You can also identify how many tributes they require through the number of red arrows surrounding the image on the card. For example, you can summon a Link Monster with two red arrows on its card by sacrificing two Summon Materials on the field.

Some Monsters can Count as 2 Summon Material

Monsters only count as 1 Summon Material, but some Monsters are counted as 2 Summon Materials. You can use it to save at least one of your Monsters on the field. They'll also come in handy if you have a higher level of Link Monster that you want to take the battle.

Place them on the Field to Start the Summon

You can only start the summon by placing all the required Summon Materials on the field. You can summon the Link Monster on the same Main Phase turn as long as you have all the materials with you and they're already on the field.

Tap on the Complete button after deciding which ones to tribute.

Link Monsters Have 0 Defense

One of the unique things in Cross Duel is that Link Monsters can be set in Defense Position. However, all Link Monsters would have 0 DEF by default as the card only depicts them having ATK value.

If players want to give it Defense, a good idea would be to summon the Link Monster through Co-Linking.

Co-Link with a Different Link Monster

You can summon a more powerful Link Monster if you use another Link Monster on the field as Summon Material. A Link Monster being used counts as one material per Link Marker it has.

For example, Decode Talker having a Link Rating of 3 can be used to summon Firewall Dragon by being counted as three materials, only needing one more monster to meet the latter's material requirements.

If there are multiple Link Monsters that will be used as tributes, you can freely change the Co-Link and give the most beneficial buff for your Link Monster.

To properly Co-Link, place the tributed monster to a position pointed by the summoned monster's Link Markers, and their arrows must be pointing at each other. Doing so grants one more additional effect in granting the Link Monster DEF points equal to the ATK of the tributed monster.
