The Underground is one of the most challenging parts of the game with a gauntlet of battles that finishes with a boss fight at the end. Here you will learn the rules of the Underground and what rewards are in store for players.
You only have one attempt to challenge the Underground per day. Your attempt will recover at 4:00 a.m. the next day. Remember that the number of attempts don't carry over to the next day, so make sure to get into the Underground every day for rewards.
Make sure to choose which Zone you want to challenge carefully because you won't be able to switch Zones until 4:00 a.m. the next day. The higher the Zone's number, the more difficult it will be to beat, so choose wisely.
Characters must be at least level 10 to participate in the Underground. Since all monsters in any Underground Zone can easily overpower Characters below level 10, the inclusion of this restriction makes a lot of sense. So make sure to have a good number of decently-leveled characters before challenging the Underground.
Unlike in Quests, a your party's HP does not recover between battles in the Underground. This is why we highly recommend you to bring along a healer to recover their HP between battles and increase their survivability. Defense-type characters or characters with a barrier ability such as Perseus, Hercules, or Pygmalion are also highly effective in the Underground.
The rule of no HP recovery between battles is also consistent with enemies. If your party was defeated in one level and you try again with different characters, enemies will retain the damage they received previously. This makes the enemy more vulnerable on subsequent attempts.
If your main high-level characters are defeated before you reach the end of a Zone, you might not be able to beat it unless you have more high-level characters in reserve. Keep as many of your characters leveled up to your current Player Rank to make sure you will have enough of them to send into the Underground and beat the boss of the Zone.
Clearing battles in the Underground will reward you with Underground Medals and Credits on any run, and Quartz when you clear a battle for the first time. It's highly recommended that you clear as many of the Underground's levels as possible to reap all of the rewards.
Underground Medals are used to exchange for Anima and Expansion Items at the Exchange. This makes the Underground a good place to farm for Animas to strengthen your current characters by increasing their rarity, or getting new characters.
Though there is no difference between the rewards of the first four levels of an Underground Zone, there is a massive boost in rewards when you get to the final boss level.
Beating the Zone Boss nets you more Credits and Underground Medals, giving you the chance to get more Animas and Expansion Items.
Beating the Underground without knowing which enemies to beat first will be tough. Read our guides below on how to clear the first two Underground Zones.
