This guide will explain the Combat System in ALICE Fiction. Learn about a battle's turn phases, how to break panels, as well as how to use both Crash and Active Skills.
List of Contents
Battles in ALICE Fiction are divided into turns, which have two phases.
In the first phase of a turn before the panel breaking phase, you can use the Active Skills of your Folklore, as well as target specific enemies by tapping on them.
In the second phase or Attack Mode, the player will have to break colored panels found at the bottom of the screen. These colored panels correspond to your party members and will determine how much damage they will deal against enemies once the second phase ends.
You will only need to tap on a panel to break it. Adjacent panels of the same color can be broken together. Breaking three or more panels of the same color will create a Skill panel which you can break to use a Folklore's Crash Skill.
Panels must be broken within a time limit. The time remaining is indicated by the red color behind your panels, and a three, two, one
countdown warning toward the end of the phase. Try to break as many panels as you can before the Attack Mode phase ends.
We recommend not spamming and breaking panels at random. The game will warn you at some point that this will result in the end of the Attack Mode phase even if there is still time left. Also you will get more damage output by lining up three or more panels, so it's better to focus on getting Skill panels and breaking them rather than breaking many individual panels.
If you want to focus on damaging a single enemy, tap on them to lock on before starting Attack Mode. This will ensure that your party will damage that enemy first until it goes down. This can be a useful tool if you want to focus on a boss, or if there's an enemy with buff or debuff abilities that you want to prioritize taking down.
A Folklore's Active Skills are used in a turn's first phase. They can be accessed via the 'Skill' icon next to your Folklore's picture at the bottom half of the screen.
Active Skills are moves that have a wide array of effects such as extending the time for Attack Mode, giving stat buffs to your party, HP recovery, stat debuffs, and direct damage against enemies.
After using an Active Skill there is a cooldown period that lasts a certain number of turns before you can use that Active Skill again. Keep in mind that battles have a turn limit, so planning when to use Active Skills is important in tougher battles.
Breaking three or more panels of the same color during Attack Mode creates a Skill Panel for the corresponding Folklore’s Crash Skill. The Crash Skill is a Folklore move that usually deals high damage to an enemy, but may also have other useful effects.
Breaking the Crash Skill panel with two adjacent panels of the same color levels it up, making it more powerful when used.
During battle, you will notice numbers on the top right-hand corner of the screen increase as you break panels. These are Attack and Skill Bonuses, which dictate how much damage your Folklore's attacks and Crash Skills deal to enemies.
As you break more same-colored panels that are adjacent to each other, the higher your Attack and Skill Bonuses will be. Just keep in mind that you shouldn't break panels recklessly, or else your turn will end earlier as a penalty.
Attack and Skill Bonuses Explained
When a Folklore takes too much damage, their HP will go down to zero. This will make your Folklore retreat from battle.
Your party can bring up to two sub-members that will replace your fallen Folklore. But make sure to not let too many Folklore retreat from battle, as you will run out of replacements. This will leave you with fewer units to deal damage to enemies with.
Note: If a Folklore falls and is replaced in battle your Star rating for that quest will be lowered. This is important as a 3★ rating is required to skip quests on subsequent runs.
There is a set number of turns for every battle. If you allow the 'Turns Left' counter at the top left corner of the screen to reach zero before all enemies are defeated, the battle will result in an instant defeat.
So keep an eye on the 'Turns Left' counter and beat your enemies before your turns run out!
